Docents

Members of our Docent Corps facilitate engaging learning experiences for visitors of all ages. They help visitors explore, discover, understand, and enjoy the Museum’s collections and exhibitions through inquiry-based tours and object-based learning. Docents are the Museum’s enthusiastic educational ambassadors to the public and are the core of the Museum’s interpretive program. They conduct tours for children, kindergarten through twelfth grade, adults and special needs visitors. Docents may also assist with special events and present outreach programs in the community.

Docent training is available as needed in a one-on-one setting. The Museum asks that “new” docents commit to a minimum of one full year of giving tours. To apply to be a Docent, please use the red button below.

High School Students

The Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art at Florida Southern College (The AGB) needs reliable and responsible volunteers to assist with Education programs, Administrative support, and much more. Your talents and skills are appreciated, and your volunteer time can count toward community service hours for your service club or school requirements.

Summer and Spring Break Art Camp Volunteers: (must be 16 years or older)

The AGB is in need of volunteers for our Summer and Spring Break Art Camps. This opportunity gives volunteers a chance to work with children, adults and other volunteers in a highly creative and fun atmosphere. Duties will consist of assisting teachers and children, cleaning, organizing and assisting with classroom management.

Event Volunteers

Event volunteers are individuals or corporate employees who volunteer to support the Museum’s many events, including Mayfaire by-the-Lake! They may join as an individual, or as a collaborative effort of a group.

Corporate groups of volunteers are encouraged to register with their Human Resource departments within their organization and create matching gift programs that support the Museum through service and monetary assistance.

Administrative Volunteers

We are in need of volunteers who have administrative experience to assist various departments with data entry, filing, proofreading, and correspondence/ communication.  If interested, please check Membership Department in the application below. 

Visitor Services Volunteers

Volunteers at our front desk visitor service center greet visitors, answer questions, provide information about exhibits and events, and assist with membership or gift shop sales as needed (volunteers in the gift shop must be at least 18 years old). This role is perfect for friendly, outgoing individuals who enjoy engaging with the public and helping create a positive museum experience. This position does not require standing or lifting, just an eagerness to share information about our museum.
